Low waste fat quarter friendly quilts

If you're someone who LOVES scraps and leftover fabrics, perhaps skip over this one. But if you're anything like me and scraps just stress you out because you'll likely never use them and your scrap pile continues to get bigger and bigger- then this one's for you!

A quick note: This is absolutely not a judgmental post i.e. it's not judging those patterns that didn't make this post!  Fat quarter patterns are my absolute favourite and I will still make a quilt and love making a quilt even if it doesn't use up most of the fat quarter. So please view this as simply a non-judgmental resource :-)

I've pulled together a list of quilts that use almost all of the fabric  in each fat quarter (including a couple of mine ). If you know of any others, let me know!

Criteria for being included in this list:

Fabric used must take up at least 16" x 18" of the fat quarter. That means the pieces you are required to cut from each fat quarter is equal to or greater than 75% of the fat quarter. Don't think 75% is enough? Each quilt listed will state the % of an 18 x 21" fat quarter that it takes up so if your threshold is higher, we've got you covered too !

Alabama Block Quilt by Scribbly Gum Quilt Co

If you make the medium blocks, this pattern uses up 89.9% of each fat quarter.

St Louis 16 patch

This is a traditional pattern but i've written a tutorial on how to make this which you can find in the link above.  This pattern uses up 85.7% of a fat quarter (plus bonus: no background fabric!)

Gravitate quilt by Modernly Morgan

You can tell Morgan has gone to a lot of effort to make this really efficient from a fabric perspective- fat quarters use 72%, 80.5% and 91% (there's a few different configurations to really maximise those fat quarters- so that's an overall average of 81% usage of each fat quarter !)

Ombre Puff quilt by Lo and Behold Stitchery

Another free pattern- plus one for which you don't need any background fabric. This quilt uses up 85.7% of each fat quarter!

Iris Quilt by Penelope Handmade

This clever pattern uses a whole 94% of each fat quarter!

House Party Quilt by Modernly Morgan

Another quilt by Modernly Morgan! This one uses 79% of each fat quarter (for the scrappy fat quarter version :-)

If you know of any others, let me know!
